What’s Underneath

Underside with power supply

The underside of our tops have been designed to accommodate just about any power supply out there. We’ve created a 4-inch wide space between rows of slots at the tall end to mount the power supply. This also provides enough room for the height of the power supply so it will clear the floor.

If you opt to have us do the complimentary power supply installation for you, please note that we will mount the power supply in the 4-inch space between the first two rows of slots at the tall end of the board and it will be centered left to right. If you prefer another position, you can either choose to mount it yourself or move it from our mounting position to your preferred spot. The power supply is secured to the underside of the top with four wood screws.

If you plan to install a power supply other than a Voodoo Lab model, our mounting bracket kit may still work, depending on what you have. Please feel free to give us a call or an email and we’ll be glad to help you brainstorm the best way to mount your power supply.

Start Here:

It is possible to position most pedals so they overlap onto the wood frame and sit at the outer edge of the board if you need the additional space. However, if the pedal has a side input or output connector, the jack will likely stick out past the frame of the pedalboard.

We recommend that you lay out all your pedals on a table or floor just as you want them arranged on your pedalboard. To make sure to leave the proper space for the plugs that go into each pedal, plug all the pedals into each other just as they will be on the board for best accuracy. Don’t forget to leave a little “finger” space around the handles so you can grab them.

Leave a ¾-inch space all the way around the outside area if you don’t want any pedals to overlap onto the top of the pedalboard frame, which would put them right at the edge of the pedalboard. Measure the length and width and that will tell you how large of a pedalboard you will need. If your pedals are currently mounted to another pedalboard then you can simply determine if you need more room, less room or the same top surface area you have now.

Details You Should Know

All woods are unique – they come from trees, not a printing press. You know guitars, so this is likely old news to you, but we’re into full disclosure.

Like humans, each piece of wood has its own character, color, grain pattern, variations and weight. No two pieces are identical. These and other natural imperfections can add beauty and enhance the one-of-a-kind personality of the wood. They are NOT considered to be defects.

Keep in mind that your wood will not exactly match photos or other Samba Pedalboards you’ve seen. Since every piece of wood is unique, there will be color and grain variations present on each piece of wood used to build your Samba.

Also keep in mind that our Maple-finished natural wood tops are made from multi-plywood, so they may vary somewhat from the solid Maple woods used on the pedalboard frame if you choose a Maple pedalboard.

RETURN POLICY: All Sales Are Final and Non-Refundable

Since Samba Pedalboards are custom made to your order, yours is built specifically for you. For that reason, all sales are final and we do not offer returns or refunds*. So please be sure you select exactly what you want when placing your order.

*The only exception to this is a product defect. In the unlikely event there’s something wrong with your pedalboard’s build quality or hardware, we will repair or replace it in accordance with our warranty policy.

Samba pedalboards include one input/output jack on each side of the board. Either jack can be used as an input or an output. This gives you the flexibility to direct your signal flow from right to left or from left to right, depending upon your preference. (All references to left and right are made with you standing behind your pedalboard as you would with normal use. The short end of the board faces you and the tall end faces the audience.)

Each jack is labeled “in/out” for that reason. If your signal flow is from right to left the right jack will function as an “in” and the left jack as an “out,” for example. Your guitar plugs into the “in” and the “out” goes to your amp. The reverse is true if you direct your signal flow from left to right. Most, but not all pedals are made for a right to left signal flow, so right to left is generally the default signal flow direction.

Keep in mind that the labels for our jacks are suggestions only, to guide you through the most common or typical setups. However, you can use any jack for any purpose you like. The function of any particular jack will be determined solely by what you connect it to and how you connect it – in, out, send, return, for example, or from a guitar, to an amp.

While our included connectivity of one jack on each side will be all the majority of guitarists/bassists need, your requirements may call for more jacks. That is why we include expansion slots. These slots have removable plastic covers that can be replaced with additional signal cable/jack assemblies. These additional connection cable assemblies for expansion slots are $25.00 each and can either be purchased when you order your board, in which case we will install them, or you can purchase them later and install them yourself. The installation takes less than five minutes – the connection cables are secured with two screws.

There is one additional expansion slot on the right side (the side with the AC power connector), and three additional on the left side. You can add jacks to any of these and use them for any purpose. The “loop” send and return jacks located on the left side of the board can also be used as inputs or outputs if you prefer.

For applications needing specialized wiring solutions, our custom wiring shop can accommodate a wide variety of customized wiring and connection requirements, as well.

If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy to help you. You can reach us at info@sambapedalboards.com or by phone at 707‑400‑5288. Our hours are 9am to 5pm Pacific time, Monday – Friday.

Samba pedalboards include two connection cables with in/out jacks, one on each side positioned at “in/out 1”. See the diagrams above to view these connection positions. Also check out more detailed information in “about our inputs, outputs and expansion slots” located in the dropdown box above this one.

All connections are complete cable/jack assemblies about 15 inches in length. These assemblies are custom soldered and include Canare GS-6 guitar cable with a Switchcraft ¼-inch right-angle mono jack on one end and a Neutrik 1/4-inch mono plug on the other end. The Neutrik plug is screwed into an aluminum ‘dish’ bezel (Electrosocket) and this bezel attaches the assembly to the side of the pedalboard with two screws. The Switchcraft jack at the other cable end goes to the first or last pedal in your daisy chain.

If you select additional in/out connections when ordering your pedalboard, we will install them as you indicate (see below) on the order. You can also purchase additional assemblies anytime if you wish to use your expansion slots for more connectivity. Additional connection assemblies are $25.00 each, either for installation by us with your pedalboard purchase or by themselves if you are ordering cables for a pedalboard you already own to utilize your expansion slots.

AC Power Connection

Included Accessories: AC Power Cord, 3 feet of 1-inch Velcro, IEC Extension Cable, IEC to NEMA Adaptor Plug

Samba pedalboards include a one-piece AC power connection that meets UL safety standards, located on the right side of the board. The outside of the board has a male IEC (computer type) connector. We include a 10-foot AC power cord with a female IEC connector to plug into the side of the board. The other end has a standard 3-prong male wall connector (NEMA connector) to plug into the wall or a power strip.  We use an IEC connector on the board because this is a worldwide standard connector, whereas a NEMA connector is a USA standard connector.

Under the board, the other end of the AC power connector terminates with a female IEC connector. You can plug this directly into your power supply – Voodoo and most other isolated power supplies have a male IEC power connection. We also include a one-foot IEC extension cable if you need to increase the length of the AC power connector to reach your power supply.

Alternatively, we also include an IEC to NEMA adaptor plug should you wish to convert the female IEC connector under the board to a female NEMA standard USA wall-type connector. This will enable you to directly plug in a power accessory such as a One Spot or other device that uses a standard male power plug, which normally goes into a wall outlet. You can also plug your device’s standard AC power cord directly into this adaptor.

The AC power connection position on the right side of the board is fixed and it cannot be placed on the left side. If you must have the AC power going into the left side, simply plug in the included 10-foot AC power cord and then route the cord underneath the pedalboard so that it exits on the left side. The pedalboard feet provide sufficient clearance to allow the AC power cord and most audio/instrument signal cables to run underneath.

USA and Foreign Power Requirements and Safety Considerations

Our AC power connection is rated for a maximum 8 amps of current at 120 volts (960 watts). 120 volts is the USA standard, so if you plan to use your Samba outside of the USA, please make sure your AC-powered devices are compatible with the voltage used in that country.

The Samba AC power connection is safe to use in countries with 240-volt AC power standards, but your AC-powered power supply or other devices may not be. The maximum amperage current will be half if the voltage is doubled. In other words, the total power load for 8 amps at 120 volts and 4 amps at 240 volts are the same – 960 watts. Check your AC powered accessories for compatibility with foreign AC power standards before using them overseas!

Optional Accessories:

Samba pedalboards are designed for easy installation of Voodoo Lab and most other power supplies. We offer the full line of top-rated Voodoo Lab products*. They can be purchased as a pre-installed option with no additional charge for installation when you order your pedalboard. Required mounting bracket kits are $12.99. If you choose to have us install your power supply, this kit must be added to your order. If you prefer to do the handiwork yourself we recommend you also buy the kit.

Pedal Power® 2 Plus

Filter, regulate, isolate, and protect!

Pedal Power® 2 PLUS does it, and does it well, because any less will degrade your pedal’s performance. Players everywhere upgrade to Pedal Power 2 PLUS because it powers what conventional power supplies can’t. Pedal Power 2 PLUS is hand made in the U.S.A., comes complete with cables, detachable AC power cord, a 5-year warranty, and simply makes you sound better!

Pedal Power 2 PLUS Features:

9/12V (x4) – Standard 9V and 12V Boss ACA
With each one of these four outputs delivering 100mA, you can easily power any 9V battery-operated pedals. Boss pedals that specify the PSA adapter operate at 9V like most other pedals. Boss pedals that require the ACA adapter operate at 12V which can be selected via switches underneath the Pedal Power 2 PLUS. Any one of these outputs can be individually selected to run at 9V or 12V.

9V (x2) – High Current 9V and Line 6 Modelers
These two outputs each deliver 250mA allowing you to run high current draw effects like the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay or Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler. Via switches underneath the Pedal Power 2 PLUS, these two outputs can be separately configured for regulated (Boss Twin Pedals) or unregulated (Line 6 Modelers) power allowing you to run both units if so desired. These outputs can also power any standard 9V effects as well.

9V (x2) – Standard 9V With Battery Sag Control
These outputs each have an available 100mA of power, but also allow you to SAG the voltage from roughly 4V to 9V. This feature can be enabled via the bottom panel switches. The SAG control is mostly useful for transistor-based fuzz, octavia, and distortion circuits, as most modern opamp designs are minimally affected by variations in supply voltage. We recommend turning SAG off if you’re going to run digital pedals like delay, chorus, and reverb.

18V/24V – Using Custom Cables
All of the outputs on the Pedal Power 2 PLUS (and the original Pedal Power) are completely isolated allowing you to create different voltages. You can run effects like the current MXR Flanger by combining two 9V outputs to create a single 18V supply. By switching two outputs into 12V ACA mode, you can join them together to create a 24V output for powering numerous Electro-Harmonix stompboxes including the Deluxe Memory Man.

Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus $179.99
